About Nick

Nick is a 1999, registered AQHA gelding. He is enrolled in the AQHA Incentive Fund. We have owned him since he was a weanling. He has been fun and rewarding, but we have outgrown him and have too many horses. He deserves a loving home with someone who has time to give him individualized attention.

Nick has been used for reining competition and practice, 4-H (english flat, western, halter, trail, ranch horse), training level dressage, and just for fun. Nick was the Circuit Champion for the TNRHA Green Youth in April 2009. He consistently wins 4-H Blue Ribbons in english, western, halter. He has been used on cattle. He has not jumped or been used as a trail horse. He is excellent at his leads, adequate at flying changes, and will execute the lope departure from a standstill or a walk. He can pivot on forehand or haunches, rollback and spin like a reiner. He can perform basic lateral work.

Nick would be a good match for a beginner to intermediate rider, including children working with a trainer or experienced parent. He will teach them and help them advance their skills. For this level of rider he is very quiet and easy to ride. He has a good work ethic, loves working in the ring and in a relaxed routine. Please also consider him for a less experienced spouse's horse.

A more advanced rider will quickly be at odds with Nick. He enjoys light to moderate work, but hates to be pushed hard beyond his capabilities and will not tolerate pain or abuse. If he is kept very fit, he becomes quite "high" and can be difficult to deal with. He is not safe for children or beginners in that situation. (However, he will definitely respect an experienced rider providing occasional tune-ups.)

Nick is easily kept inside--where you will appreciate how incredibly neat he is in his stall--or even better, outside. However, he has not been kept in herd situation since he was a baby. He is easy to catch, bathe, clip, shoe, bridle, load and unload. He seems to need his teeth floated more frequently than our other horses. He is up to date on vaccines. He did have an injury (stifle avulsion) as a weanling which healed with rest and x-rayed fine. He is sound and has no vices.
